Elementary teacher with two studentsThis degree program enables students to complete all of the requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree in Childhood and Early Adolescent Education (PK-4 Teaching Option) at the Berks campus and to meet the requirements for the Instructional I certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. (Students at the Berks campus can also complete a two-year course of study in education prior to changing locations for any teaching option at University Park

The teacher certification program in Childhood and Early Adolescent Education is extended from Penn State's College of Education to the Berks campus. It is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and is nationally recognized by the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).  Practical field experiences mainly take place in the Reading School District and are emphasized to promote the integration of academic coursework and professional skills at all levels of coursework.

 Full-time study is required for a minimum of the three semesters when students are enrolled in the methods courses and student teaching practicum. Visit our Degree Overview for more information about entrance to major requirements.
