Undergraduate Admissions

After Admission

Congratulations on your offer of admission to Penn State University! We hope you take advantage of this oppotunity to learn more about Penn State Berks and all it has to offer to you.

Here is a review of the steps you'll take to becoming a student at Penn State Berks, beginning with when you are offered admission.

You are offered admission. Upon receipt of a completed application and any transcripts, Penn State will offer admission to all qualified applicants. If an offer is not made, you should not assume that your options are closed, but rather, you should contact the Admissions Office to explore your options.

Accept your offer. Once you have received an offer of admission, your next step is to accept the offer, which tells the University that you intend to enroll. First-year students accept their offer by paying a $200 enrollment fee ($100 of this is a general deposit which will be returned to you upon leaving the University). Transfer students pay only the $100 general deposit.

If you are interested in living on campus, you will need to accept your offer online and go to the eLiving website at http://www.eliving.psu.edu/ to reserve your housing spot. You will submit the Housing Contract and pay your $100 housing deposit. For more information about housing please visit the Berks Housing and Food Services website at http://www.hfs.psu.edu/berks/.

Locate off-campus housing. Two-thirds of Penn State Berks students live off-campus for a variety of reasons. For assistance with helping to find off-campus housing, please visit the Berks off-campus housing website at http://www.bk.psu.edu/StudentLife/living.htm.

Complete first-year testing. All first-year students starting at Penn State complete a testing program that is designed to assist in scheduling initial courses. Remember, this is an advising tool and will not in any way interfere with the decision to admit you to Penn State. This test consists of sections in English, math, and chemistry. The Division of Undergraduate Studies schedules these tests for students to take on-line. Testing does not begin until early/mid March. You will receive testing information after submitting the enrollment fee.

Attend First-Year Testing, Counseling and Advising Program (FTCAP). This step is designed to acquaint you with the sometimes complex academic world of Penn State. This program will explore the different academic opportunities available at the University, as well as the requirements of your chosen degree. Your first-year testing result will also be interpreted. Learn more about FTCAP.

Schedule your classes. All students have the opportunity to meet with an academic advisor in order to prepare a schedule of classes that meets both their needs, as well as the requirements of their chosen degree. New first-year students schedule classes during the First-Year Testing, Counseling and Advising Program (FTCAP), while transfer students make an individual appointment with their academic advisor. Transfer students will be notified by mail with the contact information for their assigned academic advisor.

Begin your classes. At this stage, you are ready to attend classes. Class times, building names, and room numbers are printed on your schedule of classes. A printed campus map may be obtained in the Admissions Office, or viewed online. Contact the admissions office if you'd like us to arrange a tour for you. The Registrar's Office can provide you with a complete schedule of important dates for the entire semeter.
