Penn State Berks students observe Earth Day

Penn State Berks students in Dr. Mahsa Kazempour's sections of BiSC3: Environmental Science course are planning an Earth Day (April 23, 2014) celebration and invite the entire campus community to join them in these or similar efforts.

Community organizations and student projects tables will be on display in front of the Perkins Student Center, next to the Perkins Plaza, on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, from 9 am ? 2 pm. Light refreshments will be served, and give-aways, information packets, and conservation tips will be available to attendees.

Kazempour?s BiSC3 students will share the environmentally-focused service learning and community-based projects with which they have been involved this semester. They will also present research they have conducted on various related environmental issues and will discuss ways the public can take action to lower their ecological footprint. Everyone will be encouraged to fill out a pledge card stating something they will do to help protect the environment. The pledge cards will be displayed on one large banner next to the tables.

Participating student and community organizations include the Berks County Parks Department, Blue Marsh Lake, Glenside Elementary School, Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center, Reading Beautification, Inc., and the Schuylkill River State and National Heritage Area.
