Freyberger Gallery to hold Gaige Memorial Juried Exhibition

READING, Pa. — The Freyberger Gallery will host a special juried exhibition to honor the late CEO Emeritus Frederick H. Gaige. This exhibit includes the work of more than 40 artists from Berks County and surrounding regions, selected by art instructors Janice Trusky, Penn State Berks, and Bob Stickloon, Penn State Schuylkill. The exhibit runs from March 22 to April 20, with an opening reception at 6 p.m. on March 22. This event is free and open to the public.

Gaige, who served as Penn State Berks' chief executive officer from 1984 until 2001, transformed the campus into a residential college with four-year academic programs, serving the needs of students and citizens throughout this region. During his tenure, the campus doubled its enrollment and significantly increased its endowment and physical facilities. A Fulbright Fellow and South Asian scholar, Gaige’s legacy continues on campus today, and the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building was dedicated in his honor in 2011.

During the reception, awards will be presented by Austra Gaige, who works as a therapist specializing in family counseling. She and Frederick Gaige traveled to Nepal on a Fulbright fellowship.

The Freyberger Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays, and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, contact Marilyn Fox, gallery director, at 610-396-6140 or [email protected].
