College honored with United Way Community Partnership Award

READING, Pa. -- Penn State Berks recently was honored with the United Way 2017 Community Partnership Award during the United Way 54th Annual Dinner and Awards, held on Thursday, April 20, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in downtown Reading.

Tammy White, president of United Way of Berks County, stated, “This organization has partnered with United Way since the beginning of The Big Cheese. This year they will be hosting Big Cheese III and supporting it with volunteers. Their volunteering continues with staff serving on the Ready.Set.READ! board and student teachers providing weekly tutoring.”

The Big Cheese has provided 300,000 macaroni-and-cheese meal packages, which are donated to the Greater Berks Food Bank. The event is staffed by 600 volunteers. Penn State Berks also has 14 volunteers for the Ready.Set.READ! Program.

Penn State Berks has been partnering with the United Way since 1996.
