College hosts Workforce Development Seminar

READING, Pa. — Penn State Berks will host a Workforce Development Seminar titled “How to Retain, Attract and Advance Dynamic and Engaged Employees,” presented by two representatives of Schlouch Incorporated: Barry Schlouch, president, and Don Swasing, chief operating officer. The seminar will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, in room 121 of the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. This event is free and open to the public but advance registration is required.

Schlouch Incorporated provides site construction services throughout Pennsylvania and surrounding states. Their services include site design, survey, excavating, utilities, concrete and paving for commercial, residential, energy and public sectors.

The goal of the seminar is to help managers to understand the need to address the shortage of skilled workforce throughout the country. The presenters plan to accomplish four goals: Create an understanding of the demographics of the workforce; discuss how to develop a plan to retain existing workers, attract new workers and develop the workforce in your company; share ways to develop your pipeline of talented candidates through career technology centers and colleges, and also how to “upskill” your existing workforce; and share best practices centered around building a culture of dynamic and engaged employees that’s built to last.

The workshop will be followed by a 20-minute campus tour for attendees who are interested.
