Reading High School Marketing and International Business Students Explore Global Studies

In October, 31 students from Reading High School, along with their teachers Huyla Sowerwine and Shawna Schrawder, visited the Berks campus. They participated in Dr. Shaffer's "Global Terrorism and Political Violence" course, met with Dr. Fegley about Global Studies, and toured the campus. If you're interested in bringing a class to Berks, let us know and we'll happily coordinate the visit.

High school students and prospective Global Studies majors regularly visit our campus to meet with the Global Studies co-ordinators and sit in on model classes.

PSU-Berks/Lehigh Valley Students Visit the
United Nations

In November, Dr. Lynn (an English faculty member in the Global Studies Program) and Dr. Shaffer took 30 Penn State-Berks/Lehigh Valley students to the United Nations. Most students were in Dr. Lynn and Dr. Shaffer's "Global Terrorism and Political Violence" Learning Community, and the rest were students majoring in Global Studies. Besides a tour of the United Nations facilities, students received a briefing by a UN Secretariat expert on terrorism in the Middle East. Dinner in Chinatown and Little Italy rounded out the trip, which served as a good grounding for those students accompanying Dr. Fegley to Geneva, Switzerland during the Spring semester as part of his course on International Law and Organizations.
