The Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management program includes both courses specific to the major and general education courses to help students develop a general knowledge base in business. In addition, students will have an opportunity to complete an internship at a local hotel, restaurant, or institutional food service facility during the second half of the program.
The associate degree program is enhanced by the opportunity to transfer to the baccalaureate degree program in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management at Penn State University Park campus. Students can also transfer to the Bachelor of Science in Business with an individualized option in Hotel Restaurant and Institutional Management. This option is available at Penn State Berks.
The hospitality field offers exciting entry-level management opportunities in restaurants, full service, limited service and extended stay hotels, clubs, and food service establishments. Other industry opportunities are available with food brokers, distributors, manufacturers, and hospitality associations.
The major includes courses in food production, hospitality accounting, hotel front office management, purchasing and sanitation, and facilities planning, as well as many others.
This degree program is only offered at the Berks campus.
