i-clicker Student Response System

What students need to know

How do I get a clicker?

Students can purchase an i-clicker2 remote at the Campus Bookstore. You can use the clicker in multiple classes across your Penn State educational experience. When you're done at Penn State, you can sell the clicker back to the Bookstore for partial credit.

Can I use a smart phone instead of purchasing a clicker?

Possibly. If your instructor has enabled i-clicker GO for your course, you have this option. Check your syllabus to see if i-clicker GO will be used in your course. If so, you have the option to purchase a subscription and download an app for your mobile device to function as a clicker.

You'll have a free 14-day trial when you sign up for i-clicker GO. Use that time to make sure GO is the right choice for your class before subscribing. If you will use a clicker for multiple classes, make sure that GO is enabled for all of your courses before choosing this option.

To create an i-clicker GO account, visit https://iclickergo.com

Subscription options:

  • 1 semester/6 month access $9.99
  • 1 year access: $15.99
  • 2 year access: $22.00
  • 4 year access: $32.00

I bought my clicker. Now what?

Register your clicker at the i-clicker website.

  • Enter your First Name and Last Name.
  • Your Student ID is your PSU access ID (example ABC123) - not your 9 digit student number.
  • Your Remote ID can be found on the back of your i-clicker remote. It is 8 characters long. It might contain the numeral zero (0), but it will not contain the letter "O".
  • If you make a mistake, repeat the above steps to correct your registration information.

How do I get started at class?

For each class where you use your remote, you'll need to make sure you've selected the correct frequency setting for that room. Follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Power button until the two digit frequency begins flashing on the screen.
  2. Enter the two letter code that your instructor will provide for your classroom.
  3. A checkmark will be displayed, indicating that the frequency has been set.

How do I answer a question?

Click the appropriate button to indicate your response to your instructor's questions. A checkmark will be displayed which indicates your response was received. It doesn't mean that your answer was correct.

You can change your response as many times as you like while the question is open.

If the poll closes prior to your response being received, or if there is interference with your transmission, a circle with a slash symbol will appear Ø along with an error explanation:

  • CLOSED - Polling has been stopped
  • NOBASE - No response from the base station (wrong frequency, interference, etc.)

Multiple choice questions:

  • Press the button (A-E) which corresponds to the answer you believe is correct.
  • Your response is automatically sent.

True / False questions

  • The A and B buttons are commonly used for true / false.
