Berks Family and Homecoming Weekend, Sept. 22–24

Students, faculty and staff at Penn State Berks will welcome family and alumni to campus when the college hosts its annual Family and Homecoming Weekend, from Friday, Sept. 22, to Sunday, Sept. 24. This year’s theme reminds alumni “There’s No Place Like Berks.”

Common Reading features Local Author

Students beginning their studies at Penn State Berks received their first homework assignment well before they showed up on campus for the first day of classes. The assignment, part of the college’s Common Reading Program, was to read "A Girl Named Nina" by local author Norma Tamayo of Exeter Township, who will discuss her work at 12:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

Artist Joe Szimhart presents a lecture on cults

Joe Szimhart, an artist and an internationally recognized expert on cults, will present a lecture on the subject at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, in the Penn State Perkins Student Center Auditorium, following the exhibition of selected artists in the Freyberger Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.

Freyberger Gallery presents exhibition of artists

Selected artists, from a special juried exhibition to honor the late CEO Emeritus Frederick H. Gaige, will be featured from Sept. 7 to Oct. 5, with an opening reception at 6 p.m. on Sept. 7, in the Penn State Berks Freyberger Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.

Berks orientation leaders ease transition to college

Stepping foot on a college campus for the first time can be an intimidating experience for students… until they are greeted by an enthusiastic, energetic group wearing brightly colored outfits complete with tutus and other accessories. Approximately 110 orientation leaders (OLs) are the first to welcome students to Penn State Berks and help to ease the transition to college life.

Penn State Berks presents “College Under the Influence”

Sean Reed, inspirational speaker and author of "College Under the Influence," will discuss this controversial topic during two presentations at Penn State Berks on Aug. 28, one at 12:15 p.m. and another at 7 p.m., in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. Both presentations are free and open to the public.

Berks alum Fitzgerald featured in 'Manhunt: Unabomber'

Retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent James “Fitz” Fitzgerald, a 1975 Penn State graduate and a former student at Penn State Berks, is the agent responsible for bringing the Unabomber to justice. He is portrayed in the scripted Discovery Channel miniseries titled, "Manhunt: Unabomber," which premiered Aug. 1.

Penn State Berks will welcome nearly 400 first-year members to its residential community as part of the campus' annual orientation program on Friday, Aug. 18. Students will move into the residence halls from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
