Dr. Rosario Torres is an Associate Professor of Spanish at Penn State Berks. Her research focuses on contemporary Spanish (Peninsular) Cultural Studies and Literature.

She is interested in deconstructing traditional definitions of gender, adopting an interdisciplinary approach that incorporates both semiotic and ideological perspectives. Her research challenges codified representation conventions in contemporary Spanish mass media to suggest new ways of perceiving them and to propose better images as alternative.

Her book Advertising Representation of Women in Spanish Fashion and Beauty Magazines (Representación publicitaria de la mujer en la prensa de alta gama española. Madrid, Editorial Pliegos, 2020) examines visual portrayals of women in advertisements appearing in Spanish women's magazines and it, also, identifies the ten most commonly perpetuated stereotypes.
