Elizabeth Wiggins-Lopez teaches Introduction to Engineering Design, EDSGN 100, at Penn State Berks. In EDSGN 100, she facilitates an industry sponsored, client driven engineering design project. In addition, she coordinates the Learning Factory at PSU-Berks (visit Learning Factory website). In her role with the PSU-Berks Learning Factory, Elizabeth interfaces with industry partners to identify and create engineering projects offered at PSU-Berks. Currently, the PSU-Berks Learning Factory has facilitated engineering projects via freshmen and senior engineering courses, independent faculty research and an academic student club.
Elizabeth is dedicated to outreach and community engagement. Her outreach efforts include increasing and retaining females in STEM related fields. She attends events to promote STEM related fields to middle and high school students in the Reading and Wilson School Districts. In addition, she is the faculty advisor for PSU-Berks Society of Women Engineers Collegiate Interest group. Other areas of interest for Elizabeth are Community Engagement and Entrepreneurship. She is involved with the Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development and is a member of the New Enterprise Award Committee at PSU-Berks (View New Student Enterprise Award information).
Prior to teaching at Penn State, Wiggins-Lopez was employed with the United States Postal Service as an Industrial Engineer from 2003-2005. During her employment with the Postal Service, she worked extensively with integrating automation into existing processes. Other responsibilities included process improvements and facility layouts. From 2001-2003, Elizabeth worked as a Manufacturing Supervisor for Siemens Energy and Automation. While working on her graduate degree from 1999-2001, she worked on a team of graduate student Industrial Engineers on Industrial Engineering projects for Jackson Memorial Hospital. At JMH, the team created computer simulation models of patient process flows in the hospital's operating and labor & delivery rooms.
