The Pennsylvania Math Initiative (PMI), founded at Penn State in 2012, will once again be hosting professional development workshops aimed at improving the mathematics fluency of elementary school teachers.
Sue Hafer, administrative support assistant for Admissions at Penn State Berks, was honored with the Commonwealth Campus Outstanding Office Professional Award at an awards ceremony on May 18 at the Nittany Lion Inn.
Thanks to the curiosity of a Penn State Berks faculty member and support from 10 Penn State Berks female engineering majors, nearly 60 middle school girls discovered not only the possibility of becoming engineers, but also gained the confidence to choose this career traditionally dominated by men.
This year, eight students at Penn State Berks received the University’s prestigious Erickson Discovery Grant for summer 2017 through the Office of Undergraduate Education. Penn State Berks had the highest number of student recipients of any Penn State campus other than University Park.
Lorena Tribe, associate professor of chemistry at Penn State Berks, has been named a Fellow of the American Chemical Society. She is the only professor at a Penn State campus other than University Park to receive this honor.
Michael Fidanza, professor of plant and soil sciences at Penn State Berks, has been named a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy. Up to 0.3 percent of the Society’s active and emeritus members may be elected Fellow.
Students who will be high school seniors and their families are invited to attend the Penn State Berks Spend a Summer Morning program beginning at 9 a.m. on Aug. 5.
Student athletes and their families will have an opportunity to meet Penn State Berks NCAA Division III coaches on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, in the Beaver Community Center during the college’s “Meet the Coaches” night.
Penn State Berks will welcome nearly 400 first-year members to its residential community as part of the campus' annual orientation program on Friday, Aug. 18. Students will move into the residence halls from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
