College to host Joby Warrick, Pulitzer Prize winner

Penn State Berks will host a lecture by Joby Warrick, reporter for The Washington Post and recipient of multiple Pulitzer Prizes, at noon Wednesday, Nov. 16, in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. The lecture will be followed by a book signing. This presentation is free and open to the public.

The Penn State Berks Elementary and Early Childhood Education degree program will host more than 50 fifth-graders from Reading School District’s Glenside Elementary School for a full day of learning, excitement and fun from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28.

Penn State LaunchBox Center preview to be held Oct. 25

In partnership with Penn State Health St. Joseph, Penn State Berks has received a $50,000 seed grant as part of the Invent Penn State initiative. On Oct. 25, the two institutions will hold an event to announce the joint initiative at the new Langan LaunchBox, located within Penn State Health St. Joseph’s Downtown Reading Campus.

Berks students to help clean up Baer Park in Reading on Oct. 14

The Center for Service Learning and Community-Based Research at Penn State Berks is partnering with the city of Reading and the Olivet Boys and Girls Club to host a litter reduction and clean up event in Baer Park from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 14. The Baer Park clean up is the first event in the litter reduction pilot program, an initiative that aims to educate children about the harmful effects of littering in parks and playgrounds and to implement litter-reduction strategies.

Emily Zartman is leading a double life; by day, the liberal arts major attends Penn State Berks, but during her free time she is a drag racer, competing regularly at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pennsylvania and other racing competitions across the country.

Student Town Hall as part of 'All In at Penn State' to be held Oct. 26

As an extension of Penn State University’s “All In at Penn State” initiative, Penn State Berks is holding a student town hall. The event, titled, “BREATHE: Dialogues in Advocacy and Self-Care,” will be held at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. This event is only open to Penn State Berks students.

As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week Penn State 2016, Penn State Berks celebrates the vision of building relationships between members of the college and the local entrepreneurial communities with a variety of events on campus the week of Nov. 13–19. The campus has several lectures planned for aspiring student entrepreneurs and one event is open to the public.

The Penn State Berks chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS), a student organization, has been honored with a Green Chemistry Chapter Award from the ACS Green Chemistry Institute for completing three projects that highlight the value of green chemistry to people and the environment.

New Generation Bollywood Dance Company will bring the colorful sights and sounds of all that is joyous about East Indian “Bollywood” dance, as well as traditional dance, to Penn State Berks at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room.
