B.A. in Global Studies

The Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies degree program enables students to develop a set of analytical and interpersonal skills that will prepare them for employment in a wide range of government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and business and industry. Students can choose from two different options within the major–Contemporary History and Politics or Latin American Culture–allowing them to prepare for the career they want.

Degree Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies program offered by Penn State Berks is designed for students who are interested in a liberal arts degree with a concentration in global studies. Students engage in active and collaborative classroom experiences in addition to intensive study abroad and internships. Students will develop a set of analytical and interpersonal skills to prepare them for l employment in a wide range of government agencies, non-profit organizations, industries, and businesses.

Those taking Global Studies as a major or minor can expect to meet the following program objectives:

  • Students will be able to evaluate global issues theoretically and critically.
  • Students will be able to use appropriate tools (databases, documents, etc.) to critically evaluate global issues and interpret these sources for bias and validity.
  • Students will be able to effectively use information systems.
  • Students will be able to critically evaluate and/or conduct research related to global issues.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to use oral and written communication skills regarding global issues.

Internships, Research, and Application

Active and collaborative experiences including intensive study abroad and internship opportunities will give students the skills that employers demand. Students enrolled in the major have studied and worked throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

After Graduation

The flexible and broad nature of the program will help students to prepare for graduate or professional school in business, law, or the social sciences. Students have enjoyed success in the following programs: M.A. in International Studies at Penn State University, M.P.S. in Humanitarian Services Administration at University of Connecticut, M.A. in Global Affairs and Management at Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University, M.A. of Public and International Affairs at University of Pittsburgh, M.S. in Global Affairs at Rutgers University, and Ph.D. in Political Science at Florida International University.
