Honors Program Admission and Retention

Admission

The Penn State Berks Honors Program is open to students in all majors, most often Penn State four-year degree programs. Incoming first-year students typically have a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher. College students in their first or second year, and with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 of higher, may also apply to the program. The main application window opens in late March, with a deadline of June 1. Additional application windows are mid-August to early September and December to early January. Applicants to the honors program should be planning to complete at least two additional semesters at Penn State Berks after admission to the program.

Please contact the honors program coordinator, Bryan Wang, at [email protected] for an application and more details.

Schreyer Honors College Admissions

Students in the Schreyer Honors College (SHC), the University-wide honors program, are automatically members of the Berks College Honors Program.

Retention

To remain in good standing in the Penn State Berks Honors Program, students must complete an annual academic plan that demonstrates progress toward their intended major as well as enrollment in honors credits as follows: first- and second-year students complete a minimum of 9 credit hours of honors work each academic year; juniors and seniors complete a minimum of 14 credits total for those two academic years.

Similar requirements apply to students in the Schreyer Honors College, and the Penn State Berks honors curriculum will also help these students meet their SHC requirements.

All honors students must achieve a semester GPA of 3.4 or higher each term.

Honors students are expected to embody the values of honors and uphold the highest ethical standards in their academic coursework and their conduct in all other university activities. They are encouraged to be involved with the honors club and engage in honors experiences such as research or creative scholarship, peer mentoring, involvement and leadership in other campus organizations, and community service.
