Division of Engineering, Business and Computing

Welcome to the Division of Engineering, Business and Computing (EBC) at Penn State Berks. With eight baccalaureate programs, two associate degrees and four minors, we're preparing the next generation of leaders ready to mold the future.

Degrees for the modern age

The Electromechanical Engineering Technology degree emphasizes a breadth of knowledge in all fields of technology related to the automated processes found in today’s manufacturing, production, assembly, and materials processing industries, while our Mechanical Engineering program includes both a strong design emphasis and hands-on laboratory experience where students learn to use scientific and engineering methods to devise useful products that are safe, reliable, and cost effective. Both degree programs are accredited by ABET, the global leader in accreditation of engineering, engineering technology, computing, and applied science programs.

The Accounting degree focuses on providing students with an in-depth education in financial and managerial accounting practices, taxation, auditing, financial analysis, and business advisory services. The program prepares students for careers with public accounting firms, corporate and private companies, not-for-profit entities, and governmental agencies. Students are prepared to pursue graduate studies and pursue professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).

Our Business programs offer a broad education and interdisciplinary perspective to provide a versatile base for mobility into many industries. Students can customize the degree by choosing from one of the following options: Accounting, Financial Services, and Marketing/Management, or create an individualized program like International Business; Strategic Communication and Marketing to meet specific career goals.

Penn State Berks offers three programs in the information sciences. Cybersecurity Analytics and Operations (CYAOP) degree prepares students to protect digital information from attack through cyber-defense strategies. Our Information Technology degree focuses on creating innovative systems and technological solutions that benefit businesses, organizations, and individuals, and understanding the role of technology in how we live our lives, while our Security and Risk Analysis degree responds to the expanding need for a highly trained analytic workforce to address a wide range of security and risk domains including national/homeland security, emergency and disaster management, law and crime, as well as enterprise risk management.

The hospitality industry is a major economic driver in the Berks County area. Penn State Berks is the only campus outside University Park to offer the Hospitality Management degree program with the Entrepreneurship option. The program prepares students for management positions in hotels, restaurants, resorts, and other hospitality organizations. Based on an in-depth understanding of managing service quality, graduates of this program can also pursue their careers in any service industry.

In addition, students in any major can complete our Entrepreneurship and Innovation Minor to hone their creative thinking and problem solving skills.

Coupling classroom and experiential learning

Lastly, but most importantly, learning isn’t limited to the classroom at Penn State Berks. We are dedicated to student learning in the classroom and laboratories and other academic and co-curricular settings. Our faculty bring a balance of academic excellence, scholarship and industry experience from which they promote student opportunities to conduct research with faculty, gain experience through internships and interact with local businesses and non-profit organizations through our Learning Factory and the Center for Creativity, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development.

We look forward to welcoming you to our lovely campus and state-of-the-art facilities in the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building.
