Penn State Berks Grants Office

The Penn State Berks Grants Office is dedicated to serving the faculty and staff of the College by assisting them with grant proposals and grant awards. Grants offer our college incredible opportunities by helping us improve teaching, research, and service to our students and to the community.

We strive to project a positive attitude and enthusiasm about the limitless opportunities available through grants and contracts. We are committed to continuous professional development, customer service, and being proactive in encouraging grant activity.

You must contact the Penn State Berks Grants Office if:

  • You are applying for a grant or fellowship that would be awarded to you as an individual or a grant that would be awarded to the college
  • If you are going to serve as a co-PI on a grant where the PI is located at University Park
  • If you wish to collaborate on a grant proposal with another institution

Grants offer funding for opportunities such as:

  • Groundbreaking undergraduate research for students
  • Courses enhanced by technology, field trips, and guest speakers
  • New cutting-edge equipment
  • Expanding service to our community
  • Increasing basic knowledge
  • Raising the level of excellence in specific academic disciplines
  • Enhancing the local, regional and national reputation of our faculty and our College

The pre-award services include:

  • Grant workshops
  • Individual meetings to discuss funding needs
  • Grant funding searches
  • Grant preparation assistance which includes:
    • Budget preparation and review
    • Editing and reviewing of grant proposals
    • Preparation of Penn State University forms
    • Ensuring compliance with University and agency guideline
    • Identification and assembly of college proposal documentation
    • Final grant submission
    • Follow up after submission
  • Working with College administration to gain College approval of proposals and awards
  • Analysis and interpretation of compliance related issues, rules, and regulations
  • Serving as the primary liaison with the University Park (UP) Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) to gain University approval of proposals and awards

The post award services offered include:

  • Setting up grant budgets and matching budgets
  • Monitoring expenses
  • Assistance with invoices, salary transfers and supplements
  • Purchasing
  • Grant close-out and reports
  • Serving as the primary liaison with UP Research Accounting

Please discuss your proposal with your division head, particularly if the proposal includes:

  • Space needs

  • Supplemental salary
