College hosts Martin Luther King Jr. banquet on Jan. 26

Penn State Berks will host a banquet in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016. The event will be held in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room; doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner at 6:30. This year?s banquet theme is ?We Shall Overcome.?

The keynote speaker is Tyshana Rosado, an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer at Albright College. During the banquet, awards will be presented to students who have demonstrated the characteristics for which Dr. King was known: leadership, community involvement, and efforts towards social justice. The following students will receive awards: Seniors Erika Germann, Aakash Hermant Makkar, Breana McKenney, and Habida Popal, and junior Jessica Hoag.

Several community groups will be in attendance, including the NAACP?Reading Branch, Central PA African American Museum, and United Africans in the Dispora of Berks County. All attendees must have a ticket and seating is limited.
