Theatre Department presents “The Siren Song of Stephen Jay Gould”

The Penn State Berks Department of Theatre will present The Siren Song of Stephen Jay Gould, a student-directed workshop production by Benjamin Bettenbender, on October 13, 15, and 16, 2015, at 8 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. Admission is free, and donations to the Theatre Department will be accepted.

In the play, a man lands on a woman after trying to throw himself off a bridge in a botched suicide attempt. On the quiet riverbank, as he attends to her minor injury, he learns that she too was planning to end her life over a broken heart. An argument ensues over the relative seriousness of their respective losses, the nature of existence, and the harmful effects of the essays of biologist Stephen Jay Gould. Will this unexpected collision lead each of them back to the dark place where they started, or will they start anew?

Theatre major Christopher Crawford will direct this production and Theatre major Marshall Garrison is the sound designer. The female lead will be played by Liana Ockenhouse, a Letters, Arts, and Sciences major, and the male lead will be played by Kyle Whitlock.
