Students volunteer in the community

Penn State Berks students will be ?lending their paws for a good cause? as they volunteer at a variety of nonprofit organizations during the academic year. The following is a list of community service initiatives in September and October 2015.

Thursday, Sept. 17, beginning at 6:30 p.m.? Country Meadows Camp Fire Night 
Students will make s?mores and engage in fun conversations with the residents at Country Meadows, 1800 Tulpehocken Rd, in Wyomissing.

Friday, September 10, 1?2 p.m.
Volunteers will be socializing the animals at the Animal Rescue League in an effort to make them more adoptable for the public.

Wednesday, September 23, 4?5 p.m.
Students will be participating in a Reading Enrichment Program with the youth at the Olivet Boys and Girls Club, 325 Walnut St. in Reading.

Friday, October 16, 1?2 p.m.
Volunteers will be socializing the animals at the Animal Rescue League in an effort to make them more adoptable for the public.

Monday, October 19, 1?9 p.m.
?Loving Lion at Opportunity House

The Penn State Berks Hotel Restaurant Society and Berks Cares student organizations will prepare an American Soul Food five-star dinner for the clients at Opportunity House. Students will serve as hosts and hostesses, waiters and waitresses, and sous chefs and line chefs. Clients will enjoy a four-course meal that will include Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream. This has become a bi-annual event and has grown in popularity with students, garnering more than 60 volunteers since its beginning in the fall of 2014.

Saturday, October 24? Country Meadows Trick Or Treat Event?decorating starts at 10:30 a.m., event starts at 1:30 p.m.?Students will assist with decorating Country Meadows for Halloween and later that day, they will assist Country Meadows residents with their trick-or-treat event for local children at the Wyomissing location.

Wednesday, October 28?4?5 p.m.? Students will be participating in a Reading Enrichment Program with the youth at the Olivet Boys and Girls Club, 325 Walnut St. in Reading.
