Whitaker Selected for University Course Design Academy

Keysha Whitaker, Lecturer in English at Penn State Berks, was one of twelve faculty members University-wide selected to participate in the Penn State 2015 Course Design Academy (CDA).

Selected from an applicant pool of more than double the number of slots available, participants will leverage the 7 principles of learning outlined in the book How Learning Works (2010) to develop courses that are learning-centered and utilize the most current research in higher education teaching. They not only build a course but, perhaps more significantly, learn a process that can enhance all future course development. One previous participant noted, "It made a huge difference in my attitude on returning to the classroom in the fall, and it prompted me to develop a few new strategies that led to better work from my students."

The CDA is an intense, week-long workshop held each May at the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence on the University Park campus. For more information, please visit the Course Design Academy site at http://www.schreyerinstitute.psu.edu/coursedesignacademy.
