Plastic Paradise screening to be held April 20

Penn State Berks will host a screening of the film Plastic Paradise: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch on Monday, April 20, 2015, from 1:00-2:15 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium as one of the many events scheduled that week to celebrate Earth Day and Environmental Education Week. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion, and the panel will be composed of faculty members, a member of college?s Maintenance and Operations crew, and a member of the Housing and Food Services staff. This event is free and open to the public.

Plastic Paradise is a 2013 independent film directed and produced by Angela Sun, an American journalist, sportscaster, and documentary filmmaker. In the film, Sun travels to remote Midway Atoll to examine the enormous collection of garbage trapped in a Pacific Ocean vortex and its effects on marine life, humans, and the environment as a whole. Throughout the film, scientists, activists, legislators, and celebrities weigh in on the effects of our society?s voracious consumption of disposable plastic on our oceans and, ultimately, our health.
