Mock DUI educates students about the dangers of driving while impaired

Penn State Berks Police Services will hold a Mock DUI program titled ?Reality Check? on Monday, April 20, 2015, at 7 p.m. on Clary Drive, located behind the turf soccer field.

The scenario will begin with a motor vehicle accident involving one vehicle and five students. Initial reports will indicate that alcohol may be involved. There will be victim entrapment and a victim fatality. In addition to Western Berks Emergency Management Services and the Spring Township Fire Department, the Berks County Coroner?s Office will respond to the fatal accident.

?Our goal is to remind our students of the reality and consequences of their decisions related to alcohol consumption,? explained Penn State Berks Police Chief Kevin Rudy. ?We are grateful for the involvement and support of both local and county emergency services personnel who were instrumental with the organization and implementation of this community service educational training event.?

Two Penn State Berks resident assistants (RAs) along with three Theatre students will play the role of the victims. Educational brochures will be distributed to attendees. Penn State Berks Police Services Student Patrol personnel and campus counselors will provide additional assistance.

Following the program, a reception will be held in Ivy Lounge in the Woods Residence Center for the participants.

The following agencies will be involved in the program: Berks County Communication Center, Berks County Coroners Office, North Central Highway Safety Network, Spring Township Fire Department, Spitler?s Towing, and Western Berks Ambulance Association.
