Linda Stein, a feminist, activist, and artist who addresses issues concerning strength, power, and justice in contemporary culture, will present a gallery exhibition and lecture at Penn State Berks in January.
The exhibition The Fluidity of Gender, will run from January 15?March 5, 2015. In the exhibition, Stein features a collection of sculptures, many wearable, that suggest androgynous armor meant to empower and protect the wearer and to help dispel stereotypes based on gender and sexuality. There will be an opening reception on Wednesday, January 21, following a performance by workshop participants at 8 p.m. in the Freyberger Gallery. All these events are free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served at the reception.
Stein will also present a lecture titled ?The Chance to be Brave, the Courage to Dare? on Wednesday, January 21, at 7 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. Stein?s tour de force lecture includes 150 video and still images in a powerful 30-minute presentation encompassing stark truths and funny anecdotes about masculinity and femininity, as well as bullying and bigotry, extending from the local to the global. A question-and-answer session will follow the talk.
The Freyberger Gallery is open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, visit our website for information about campus closure here.
