Penn State Berks holds Second Annual Latino Forum for high school students

As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, Penn State Berks is hosting seniors from local area high schools to participate in the second annual ?The Journey / El Viaje? Latino Forum on Monday, September 29, 2014, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium.

The day will begin with a welcome address by Chancellor R. Keith Hillkirk and Dr. Paul Esqueda, Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, followed by a panel discussion with students, faculty, and staff, led by Maria Tinoco and Guadalupe Kasper on the topic of ?El Viaje / The Journey.? The panel will discuss the journeys of the participants, who come from Mexico, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Argentina, and Cuba.

After lunch in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room, students will be invited to the ninth annual Penn State Berks Festival de Cine, featuring a documentary on Hispanic/Latinos celebrities and their personal journeys, followed by a discussion led by Dr. Rosario Torres and students from the Latino Unity Club.

Students from Governor Mifflin, Muhlenberg, Reading, Wilson, and Wyomissing School Districts and Berks Catholic High School and the E-Lite Academy, as well as members of the Hispanic Center, have been invited to participate in the Latino Forum.
