Rising healthcare costs topic of EBC Speaker Series

The cost of healthcare as people live longer is the topic of the next Engineering, Business, and Computing (EBC) Division Speaker Series Presentation on Friday, September 19, 2014, at 1 p.m. in room 121 of the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. Peter Olfs, Dipl.?Ing. (Degree in Engineering), formerly: Head of Corporate Communications International Siemens AG, Munich, Germany, will present "The Dilemma of Healthcare?More Cost as People Live Longer and Global Population is Growing." This presentation is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

The presentation will examine how starvation fuels epidemics, how to feed a growing global population, and how to make healthcare more cost effective. In addition, the questions ?Who is paying for the healthcare of the elderly?? and ?Who is paying for rare diseases?? will be discussed.

Olfs began his career with Siemens, a multinational engineering and electronics conglomerate company, in 1965 and held a variety of positions, including Head of Trade and Technical Press Department; Head of PR Operations of Siemens Groups; Senior Director of International Communications, Corporate Communications, Washington, DC; and Head of Corporate Communications International with special responsibility for Asia and the Americas. Since retiring in 2002, Olfs has lectured at many universities around the world.

The EBC Division Speaker Series features Penn State Berks faculty and visiting experts who conduct research on a wide variety of topics. Topics are of broad and general interest and are accessible to the non-expert.
