"Opiate Addiction: Who? What? How?" is hosted by student club

The Students for Sensible Drug Policy Club is hosting an event about opiate addiction on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, in the Perkins Student Center Lion's Den. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by the lecture and discussion at 6:00 p.m.

Dr. William Santoro, newly appointed Section Chief of Addiction Medicine in the Psychiatry Department at Reading Hospital, will present an eye-opening experience that showcases the debilitating effects of the stigma attached to individuals who struggle with drug use.

Dr. Santoro will lead a discussion about the implications surrounding prescription drug and heroin use in our communities, as well as the most effective methods of treatment. He will provide a comprehensive lens with which to understand the terminology used in cases of addiction. He will also outline the roles and responsibilities of members of medical professions, pharmaceutical companies, lawyers, and citizens in treating and preventing addiction.
