Penn State Berks will hold two events to raise awareness of contemporary issues surrounding the LGBTA community: the Noise event on April 17, 2014, and Day of Silence on April 18. Both events are open to students, faculty, and staff of the college.
The annual NOISE event is organized by the Rainbow Alliance and Campus Activities Board, student groups. The event will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at 9 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. On the same day prior to the main celebration, there will be Identity Workshops held at 3:05 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room. The workshops will be facilitated by two performers, who will share some of their personal stories to establish a sense of unity among allies and members of the LGBTA community.
NOISE is a collection of LGBTA performers who celebrate the lives of those who identitfy as LGBTA. This year's concert includes Athen's Boys Choir, Katastrophe, and Leah Mansfield and Chris Doucette. The show will end at midnight to mark the beginning of the Day of Silence, which will be held on April 18.
The National Day of Silence is a day the members and allies of the LGBTA community choose to silence themselves to take a stand on oppression in society. On April 18, a Day of Silence Educational Table will be on display in the second floor lobby of the Perkins Student Center from 12-3p.m. Those students who choose not to speak on this day will have information with them stating this intent.
