Dr. Chidi Achebe, physician executive and son of renowned African author Dr. Chinua Achebe, will make two distinct presentations on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. He will discuss ?Serving the Underserved: Healthcare Inequality in the United States? at 3:30 p.m. and ?The Life and Legacy of Chinua Achebe? at 6:30 p.m. Both presentations will be held in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium, and several of Dr. Chinua Achebe books will be available for purchase. Both events are free and open to the public.
Dr. Chidi Achebe earned his MD at Dartmouth Medical School, and has graduate degrees as well from Harvard University and Yale University. In his professional endeavors, Dr. Achebe advocates for healthcare equality. For his efforts in bridging healthcare disparities, he was awarded the 2012 Dartmouth College Martin Luther King Award. Dr. Achebe is currently the President and CEO of AIDE (African Integrated Development Enterprise). He has served as the President and CEO of Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Centers, as well as Medical Director of the Whittier Street Health Center and as Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine.
His father, the late Chinua Achebe, is the renowned African author of the novel Things Fall Apart and other distinguished works. (The late Nelson Mandela once said, ?There was a writer named Chinua Achebe . . . in whose company the prison walls fell down.?)
