As part of the Penn State Berks Mental Health Fair and the Arts and Lecture Series, author and inspiration for TWLOHA, To Write Love on Her Arms, Renee Yohe will discuss her battle with mental health issues on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.
The Mental Health Fair will be held on Monday, Jan. 27, from 1-3 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Lion?s Den, and is only open to Penn State Berks students, faculty, and staff.
Yohe will discuss her book, Purpose for the Pain, which chronicles in heartbreaking detail and poetic outpourings her four-year battle with mental health issues, and inspired the motion picture, Renee, in which she is portrayed by Kat Dennings. In this book, Yohe chronicles her journey from self-destruction to a new life. Today, Yohe is dedicated to helping others overcome their struggles by providing hope and inspiration through stories of her own personal conflicts.
To Write Love on Her Arms is the nonprofit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide.
The Mental Health Fair will include depression screenings courtesy of the college?s Office of Counseling Services, information about eating disorders, information about the Greater Reading Mental Health Alliance, a book stand that will sell several popular titles in the mental health genre including Yohe?s memoir, activities, door prizes, and free refreshments.
