Penn State Berks will host approximately 130 Girl Scouts?all Latina middle school students from Southern Middle School in the Reading School District?for a day of science and engineering workshops on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. The Girl Scouts will arrive on campus at 9 a.m. and depart by 2 p.m.
The event is part of the Girl Scouts? Inspirar/Breathe program, which calls on the girls? leadership skills and values to help protect the air of Planet Earth. This journey invites girls to engage their minds and hearts as they explore air with all their senses.
The middle school girls will be welcomed to the college by Dr. Paul Esqueda, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. They will then split into groups and choose from three of nine morning workshops, taught by Penn State Berks faculty members, all dealing with the themes of air and oxygen. After lunch, and they will hear from Maria Tinoco, Admissions Counselor, about the importance of pursuing higher education.
