An additional film will be presented as part of the Global Studies degree program?s African Film Series. Living with Hunger will be shown on Monday, December 9th at 1 p.m. in room 308 of the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. This event is free and open to the public.
Living with Hunger is a British independent television production. In this vivid and thought-provoking film, Sorious Samura, a journalist of Sierra Leonean descent moves into an Ethiopian village to experience hunger firsthand. Samura spent five weeks living as one of the villagers on one ?meal? per day. Those meals varied from a bean sauce and wheat pancake on ?good days? to a weed, called wild cabbage, on ?bad days.?
At one point, about halfway through filming, Samura lost sight of his objective and begged his film crew for food. Samura stated in a BBC News interview, "I felt I was going to pass out. But these people live this life day in day out from the day they are conceived." He considers the Ethiopian people to be heroes rather than victims.
