Science Colloquium discusses new research in geometry

Dr. Wah-Kwan Ku, Lecturer of Mathematics at Penn State Berks, will be the featured speaker at the next Science Colloquium on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at 1 pm in room 5, Luerssen Building. "Finite Blocking Property of Geodesics" is the title of Ku?s talk. This presentation is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

According to Dr. Ku's abstract, ?In geometry, a geodesic is a generalization of the idea of a straight line to ?curved? spaces. An example of a curved space is the surface of the Earth. In fact, the term ?geodesic" was originated from a branch of earth science, and it literally means the shortest path between two points on the surface of the Earth.? In this talk, he will introduce a relatively new area of research in geometry called Finite Blocking Property, and he will use billiard table to illustrate some of the ideas. 

The Science Division colloquia are of broad and general interest, accessible to a general audience. All students, faculty, and interested members of the Penn State Berks and surrounding community are welcome and encouraged attend.
