Penn State Berks to celebrate Nontraditional Student Recognition Week, Nov. 4–11

WYOMISSING, Pa. — In honor of Nontraditional Student Recognition Week, the Penn State Berks Office of Continuing Education is hosting a weeklong celebration to recognize adult learners from Nov. 4 to 11.

Penn State defines an adult learner as someone who is 24 years of age or older; a veteran or active-duty military member; a returning student who has had four or more years of employment or other activity; or is a parent/guardian, spouse/partner, or employee.

Penn State Berks Adult Learner Recognition Night at the Reading Royals

Adult learners are invited to bring their family and friends to this special night at the Reading Royals ice hockey game at Santander Arena, located at 700 Penn St. in Reading. Ticket prices start at $18. Click here to register and purchase tickets.

Adult Student Recognition Multi-Campus Zoom

Adult Learner Information Session Open House via Zoom (registration required)

Adult learners who are interested in continuing or starting their college education are invited to this open house to speak with Kathy Cavanaugh, adult student engagement coordinator. To register, contact Cavanaugh at [email protected].

Adult Learner Mentor Mixer

Adult learners are invited to this mixer where they will meet adult learner mentors and mentees and find out more about the Adult Learner Peer Mentor Program. Light refreshments will be served. To register for the event, contact Kathy Cavanaugh at [email protected].

The adult student engagement coordinator, Kathy Cavanaugh, will be available to talk about opportunities to continue or begin college. All who stop by will receive a free giveaway.

Coffee for Veterans and Active Duty Service Members

Our veterans and active duty service members who are adult learners at Penn State Berks will receive a free cup of coffee. To register for this event, contact Kathy Cavanaugh at [email protected].

At the beginning of the fall 2022 semester, Penn State Berks introduced the Adult Learner Peer Mentor Program. The program pairs current adult learners with incoming adult students to enhance the adult education experience.

Evening study programs in business, engineering technology, organizational leadership, information sciences and technology, and hospitality management also are available for adult learners. These programs offer flexible schedules with classes offered during the day or evenings, or in accelerated or hybrid formats.
