WYOMISSING, Pa. — In recognition of Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October 2024, the Penn State Berks information sciences and technology department will join forces to host events to increase awareness about cybersecurity issues and best practices. These free events cater to a range of audiences, including Penn State Berks students, faculty and staff; K-12 students and educators; and the community. Preregistration is required for some events.
HackPSU
Saturday, Oct. 12
Business Building, Penn State University Park
This event is only for Penn State Berks students.
Penn State Berks students will travel to University Park to participate in HackPSU, Penn State’s student-run 24-hour hackathon that is held twice a year. Teams of students compete for prizes in various sponsored challenges in tracks such as sustainability, generative AI and entrepreneurship.
Cybersecurity Career Pathways Panel

This event is for Penn State Berks students, faculty, staff, and K-12 school counselors and administrators.
Penn State Berks information sciences and technology alumni will discuss their background and experience in cybersecurity careers. Panelists include:

Cyber Lions visit Centro Hispano Daniel Torres

This event is for the clients of Centro Hispano.
Cyber Lions, a Penn State Berks student organization dedicated to raising awareness of cyber crimes in the local community, will give a presentation to educate seniors about cybersecurity scams and teach them how to secure their devices. After the presentation, they will answer questions and provide one-on-one assistance.

The Penn State Berks Technology Club will participate in Lockdown, the online remote cybersecurity competition hosted by the University at Buffalo Network Defense.
