New program gives students a look 'Behind The Prose'

Latest podcast features interview with ABC 'life advice guru' Liz Pryor

Students at Penn State Berks have the unique opportunity to learn about the writing process through interviews with accomplished writers as part of a new program called “Behind the Prose.” The series of podcasts features interviews that deconstruct the work of contemporary authors, essayists, and journalists through in-depth interviews, investigating writers’ choices and motivations, from sentence structure to chapter breaks, with the goal of exploring and demystifying the writing process.

"Behind the Prose" is hosted by Keysha Whitaker, lecturer in English and professional writing at Penn State Berks. Now in its second season, the latest installment features an interview with Liz Pryor, “life advice guru” on ABC’s "Good Morning America." Last year, Pryor went up against 15,000 hopefuls in a national search for the position of “life advice guru” and won. Pryor’s new memoir, "Look at You Now" reveals her experience with teenage pregnancy and how she gained strength to overcome the obstacle.

This season, Sarah Lorish, professional writing major at Penn State Berks, takes to the air waves as the associate producer and co-host. Lorish asked Pryor questions about her writing process and her motivation for publishing the memoir. Lorish is completing an internship for "Behind the Prose" as part of her degree requirements.

The podcast interview with Pryor, which debuted in September, is available at BehindtheProse.com. The podcast is also available on iTunes.
