Penn State announces 2017 faculty and staff awards

Each year, Penn State recognizes outstanding faculty and staff with annual awards in teaching and excellence. The invitation-only ceremony for the 2017 awards is Wednesday, April 19 at University Park.

Undergraduate faculty teaching awards

• The Milton S. Eisenhower Award for Distinguished Teaching -- Brenda Russell, professor of applied psychology at Penn State Berks, and Chris Staley, distinguished professor of art in the College of Arts and Architecture
• The George W. Atherton Award for Excellence in Teaching -- John Beale, senior lecturer of journalism in the College of Communications; Theresa Clemente, instructor of business at Penn State Wilkes-Barre; Brian Crosby, lecturer of psychology in the College of the Liberal Arts; James Lyon, professor of music in the College of Arts and Architecture; Denise Ogden, professor marketing at Penn State Lehigh Valley and JoAnne Pumariega, instructor of mathematics and Spanish at Penn State Berks
• The Penn State Teaching Fellow: The Penn State Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Teaching -- Sarah Ades, associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology in the Eberly College of Science; Matthew Parkinson, associate professor of engineering design and mechanical engineering in the College of Engineering; and Gib Prettyman, associate professor of English at Penn State Fayette
• The Penn State Excellence in Advising Award -- Devon Thomas, academic adviser in the College of Health and Human Development, and Brian A. Egan, instructor of equine science in College of Agricultural Sciences
• The President’s Award for Excellence in Academic Integration -- Andrew Nyblade, professor of geosciences in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences
• The President’s Award for Engagement with Students -- Christopher Kiver, associate professor of music and conductor of the Concert Choir and Glee Club at Penn State
• The Undergraduate Program Leadership Award -- Gerald Santoro, senior lecturer of information sciences and technology in the College of Information Science and Technology
• The Howard B. Palmer Faculty Mentoring Award -- Gary H. Perdew, John T. and Paige S. Smith Professor in Agricultural Sciences in the College of Agricultural Sciences
• The Graduate Faculty Teaching Award -- Rama Radhakrishna, professor of agricultural and extension education in the College of Agricultural Sciences
• The Graduate School Alumni Society Graduate Program Chair Leadership Award -- Vijay Krishna, distinguished professor of economics in the College of the Liberal Arts
