Students volunteer in the community

Penn State Berks students will be volunteering in the community with a variety of nonprofit organizations throughout the academic year. The following is a list of community service initiatives in November 2018.

Wednesday, Nov. 7, 5–9 p.m. — Opportunity House Dinner

Students will prepare and serve dinner at Opportunity House, the Reading emergency shelter.

Monday, Nov. 12, 9 a.m.–12 p.m — Country Meadows Wyomissing

Every year, Country Meadows honors their veteran residents and staff members with a breakfast and an opportunity to discuss their service and hear from a keynote speaker. Students will be preparing the dining room before the meal, serving breakfast, and cleaning up after the meal.

Thursday, Nov. 15, 3–8 p.m. — Police Athletic League Thanksgiving

Students will visit the Olivet Boys & Girls Club Police Athletic League unit to coordinate Thanksgiving-themed activities and serve a traditional Thanksgiving meal. There may also be student presentations and performances, depending on student interest.

Thursday, November 29, 2 p.m. — Country Meadows Wyomissing

Students will visit the residents of Country Meadows, where they will decorate the retirement community in preparation for the upcoming holidays.
