Dr. Chidi Achebe, physician executive and son of renowned African author Dr. Chinua Achebe, will make two distinct presentations on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. He will discuss "Serving the Underserved: Healthcare Inequality in the United States" at 3:30 p.m. and "The Life and Legacy of Chinua Achebe" at 6:30 p.m. Both presentations will be held in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium, and several of Dr. Chinua Achebe books will be available for purchase. Both events are free and open to the public.
Christopher Aredo, formerly a street-dwelling youth in Kenya, is currently completing an internship at Penn State Berks from Kenya Methodist University. His journey from Kenya to Penn State Berks was a long and winding one, and it brings a long-standing college collaboration full circle. In addition, Aredo is teaching a class on modern society in Kenya based on the writings of Chinua Achebe, author of Things Fall Apart and No Longer At Ease.
Penn State Berks has recently received approval from the University to offer the Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology to its academic programs, beginning in the fall semester of 2014. Penn State Berks will be the only campus outside University Park to offer the B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

The Penn State Berks Center for Learning and Teaching announces the launch of the new One Button Studio, a simplified video recording studio that can easily be used by virtually anyone by simply touching one button. There will be an Open House celebration on Monday March 31, 2014, from 1- 2:30 pm, in the One Button Studio (Room 127, Boscov-Lakin Information Commons at the Thun Library). This event is open to the campus community and will include light refreshments and giveaways.
Penn State Berks Applied Psychology students completing their senior internship seminar class chose a community service event to complete as a group. Approximately 22 seniors will volunteer at Opportunity House in Reading on Friday, March 28, 2014, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. They will serve lunch in the soup kitchen and also provide the attendees with helpful information about finding employment.
