Researchers, community collaborate at food security symposium

Researchers from Penn State and representatives from Pennsylvania-based community organizations participated in the Food Security and Access for Healthy Futures Symposium at Penn State University Park on April 24. The event aimed to identify needs of state and regional food distribution systems and to create a space for new research collaborations to tackle challenges that state residents face with food insecurity, access and more.

Penn State Berks summer sessions begin May 18

Penn State Berks is offering many great ways for students to spend their summer and get a jump on their fall semester. There will be a full semester session beginning May 18 and ending Aug. 12, with finals on Aug. 14. There will also be two six-week sessions: The first will begin on May 18 and continue through June 26, with final exams on June 29. The second runs from July 1 to Aug. 12, with finals on Aug. 14.    

Penn State Schuylkill to host roundtable on using AI to address local food needs

Penn State Schuylkill will host a roundtable, “Harvesting Insights: Using Data and AI to Map Local Food Needs,” on May 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., bringing together community partners to address food insecurity. The event will feature discussions on identifying gaps in food access, artificial intelligence demonstrations and networking opportunities, with participants receiving a $20 gift card. Registration is required and seating is limited.

Penn State Berks students travel to Seattle area for Alternative Spring Break

During Penn State's spring break, 10 Penn State Berks students, joined by students from Penn State Harrisburg and Penn State Scranton, participated in the University's annual Alternative Spring Break trip, a service trip that allows them to travel to different areas each year. This year, students traveled to the Seattle area, where they worked with members of the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe on conservation efforts and with Sound Salmon Solutions on efforts to help restore and protect waterways.
