WPI Historical Marker

Marker text reads: "Berks Campus — Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute, established in 1927 by textile machine works to provide a work-study program for its apprentices, was the forerunner of the Penn State Berks campus. Originally located on Hill Avenue in Wyomissing, WPI graduated over 1,500 students before becoming the Penn State Wyomissing Center in 1958. The Center became part of the Commonwealth Campus system and in 1972 was relocated to this site as the Penn State Berks campus."
