Photography is an important part of marketing and the brand at Penn State Berks. However, not all photography opportunities meet the needs of the brand. With the high quantity of requests made of Strategic Communications, there is a need to be strategic with photography requests. Our office focuses photography that can be used for marketing purposes and fall within the brand structure. Requests made will be evaluated based on these parameters and decided upon.
Making a Request
To make a request, please submit the Photo Request form as soon as you have the information. Requests made the day of an event or too close to the time of the event may not be honored due to schedule conflicts. Please provide as much information about the event as you can in order for a decision to be made about providing photography support. Once the request is made, it will be evaluated and you will receive a response from Strategic Communications either with more questions or a decision.
What types of photography are accepted?
The Penn State brand style of photography is that of “active-doers,” where the subject of the photos are actively doing or engaged in something visually interesting. Posed subjects or staged group shots are types of photography the University is pulling away from.
In addition, due to the small staffing of the Strategic Communications office, we focus our photography needs on images that are visually interesting and can be used for marketing purposes.
When do I need to use photo release forms?
Photo release forms are needed for any group of people being photographed for the use of the university that isn’t already a student, faculty, or staff member at Penn State. It is preferable that this form is signed prior to photos being taken. If the subjects of the photos are minors, it is required to have this form signed by their parent or guardian. Without parental consent, the faces of the minors cannot be photographed.
