WYOMISSING, Pa. — Penn State Berks will welcome approximately 360 first-year students to its residential community as part of the campus' annual orientation program beginning on Friday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students should refer to the campus map for move-in directions. Returning students will move in from Saturday, Aug. 24, and Sunday, Aug. 25. Welcome Weekend programs and activities will be held from Aug. 23 through Aug. 25.
Students will bid farewell to family and friends at 4 p.m. and attend a Welcome Weekend Kick-off and New Student Program with Bonny Shade, a professional speaker and researcher on campus-based sexual violence, empowering women and building better communities, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. under the tent in front of the Perkins Student Center.
This program be followed by a Residence Hall Orientation, a program geared toward helping students to develop connections, understand policies, and learn keys to successful residence hall living. Meanwhile, there will be a special dinner for commuter students in Tully’s cafeteria at 6 p.m. The evening will include with a variety of social activities beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The Welcome Weekend program for incoming first-year and transfer students will resume on Saturday, Aug. 24, and Sunday, Aug. 25. Students will meet in the Beaver Athletics and Wellness Center gymnasium for a pep rally beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by breakout sessions at 11:30 a.m., an ice cream social with alumni at 1:30 p.m. in the Perkins Plaza, a session for first-year group leaders at 2:30 p.m., followed by a carnival and other social events beginning at 5 p.m.
On Sunday, there will be a "First-Gen Coffee and Donuts" with Student Affairs program for students at 9 a.m. in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room, followed by a session on first-year programming at 10 a.m. in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium, lunch, a campus resource tour from 1-3 p.m., and an orientation program for the college’s honors program at 2 p.m. in the Franco Building, room 151. Welcome Weekend will conclude at 3 p.m.
The Penn State Berks Welcome Weekend Program is staffed by student orientation leaders, resident assistants, and other members of the college community. It is funded by the Penn State Berks Student Initiated Fee and sponsored by the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement.
