Penn State Berks Strategic Communications interviewed Michele Ramsey, associate professor of communication arts and sciences and of women's, gender and sexuality studies, about the film "Barbie," the Greta Gerwig-directed film about the iconic doll, and now Warner Bros.’ highest-grossing domestic release. Ramsey is a frequent media contributor on issues concerning women’s studies and communication.

Penn State Berks engineering students receive LION STEM scholarship

Seven incoming Penn State Berks students were awarded a scholarship to study engineering through the campus' Leveraging Innovation and Optimizing Nurturing (LION) STEM Scholars Program. The program, funded through a National Science Foundation grant, is in its second year and provides support in the form of a four-year, renewable $6,250 scholarship to talented engineering students with demonstrated financial need.

Berks celebrates STEM success hosting 23rd Annual Careers with Math Options

Penn State Berks celebrated the 23nd anniversary of its Careers with Math Options Conference on May 9. A record total of 188 seventh grade students and 24 chaperones from 13 schools around the Berks County area attended the day-long event. The mission of the event is to generate excitement for STEM topics early in young female students’ education.

Berks Hospitality Management and Food Services partner to enhance learning

At Penn State Berks, hospitality management students are learning about the principles of food production and service management in a living laboratory, through a unique collaboration between the college’s hospitality management baccalaureate degree program and Penn State Housing and Food Services. Faculty from the degree program and Food Services staff have partnered to offer HM 330: Food Production and Service Management.

Penn State Berks summer sessions begin May 15

Penn State Berks is offering 70 great ways for students to spend their summer. The first six-week summer session will begin on May 15 and continue through June 23, with final exams on June 26; and the second six-week session runs from June 28 to Aug. 9, with finals on Aug. 11.

Berks student research duo receives honorable mention at regional conference

Two Penn State Berks students received an honorable mention at the Mid-Atlantic Ecological Society of America (ESA) Annual Meeting, which was held from March 31 to April 2 at the University of Delaware. Erin Horack, a second-year biotechnology major, and Quang Vinh Lu, a second-year biology major, presented their research, titled “Antibiotic-Resistant Gene Expression in Water Quality Indicators, Escherichia coli, and Enterococci, Extracted from the Delaware River Basin.”

Penn State Berks Professor Murphy awarded Ken Peak Innovations in Teaching Award

Jennifer Murphy, associate professor of criminal justice at Penn State Berks, was recently awarded the 2023 Ken Peak Innovations in Teaching Award, given to one faculty member nationwide by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS). The purpose of this award is to recognize and honor criminal justice and criminology faculty members for innovative teaching methods.
