The Penn State Berks global studies program will host a global forum titled "A Year in the Peace Corps–Timor-Leste," presented by alumna Jaymi Smith, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, in Room 121 of the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. This event is free and open to the public.
The Penn State Berks Alumni Society celebrated three alumni who received awards for 2023 during its awards ceremony on April 25. Cory Varona Corniel and Nicol Varona Cancelmo received the Outstanding Young Alumnae Award, Jumah P. Taweh earned the Alumni Achievement Award, and Pamela Shupp Menet received the Volunteer Service Award.
Brenda Russell, professor of psychology at Penn State Berks, met Celia Torres when Torres was an applied psychology major at Penn State Berks. During that time, they developed a mutual respect for one another and began a long-standing research collaboration that continues today.
Penn State Berks and Reading High School alumni and sisters Cory Varona-Corniel and Nicol Varona Cancelmo, co-founders of OCOA Beauty, will together deliver the commencement address for the Berks campus commencement ceremony on Dec. 16.
Penn State Berks alumni and family members of students are invited to the college’s annual Family and Homecoming Weekend, Friday, Oct. 6, to Sunday, Oct. 8. This year’s theme is "Building Memories.” The weekend will include activities for the entire family, including social and athletic events that showcase the campus.
Penn State Berks alumna Jaymi Smith, who graduated with her bachelor’s degree in global studies in May 2023, earned acceptance into the United States Peace Corps. In October 2023, she will travel to Timor-Leste to work as a community economic development facilitator.
During her time at Penn State Berks, Michel Germán dedicated her efforts to helping others, in and out of the classroom, all while persevering through adversity. The Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, native graduated on May 6 with her bachelor’s degree in elementary and early childhood education during the Penn State Berks commencement ceremony.
A new class of nearly 250 Penn State Berks students will receive their baccalaureate and associate degrees at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, at the Santander Arena in downtown Reading, when Berks hosts its spring 2023 commencement ceremony. The honorary keynote speaker this year will be Brian S. Dreibelbis, Penn State Berks alumnus and senior director of supply chain human resources/labor and employee relations at the Land O’Lakes Corporation. He is also a member of the Penn State Berks Advisory Board.
The Penn State Berks Alumni Society celebrated three alumni who received awards for 2022 during its awards ceremony on Wednesday, April 5. Nick Claytor received the Volunteer Service Award, Brittany Maack LaManna earned the Outstanding Young Alumna Award, and Steve Stetzler won the Alumni Achievement Award. In addition, Nicholas Yeager, 2021 recipient of the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award, was also recognized this year as he was unable to attend last year’s ceremony.
Inspired by the opportunity to memorialize her husband and support the community that brought them together, Penn State graduate Barbara Bradley has stepped forward with a gift of $350,000 to establish the John and Barbara Bradley Scholarship at Penn State Berks.
