The Story Powered Initiative is a newly relaunched, nationally focused initiative that addresses stigma and discrimination through sharing individual stories surrounding the opioid epidemic, founded and led by assistant professor of criminal justice and Consortium to Combat Substance Abuse-affiliated faculty member Glenn Sterner.
Police officers who are repeatedly called to the scene of opioid overdose incidents may be at risk for “empathy fatigue,” according to Penn State Berks researcher Jennifer Murphy, who said additional training may be helpful in preventing emotional burnout.
Penn State Berks and Caron Treatment Centers will host a presentation titled “What Every Community Leader Needs To Know About The Opioid Crisis” from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, in Room 121 of the Gaige Building on the Berks campus.
Penn State Berks will hold an educational program titled “Tentacles of Opioids: Reaching Far and Wide” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room.
