Hongyan “Red” Yuan, an instructional designer at Penn State Berks and member of the board of the Reading Chinese Association (RCA), recently helped to coordinate the donation of 1,500 surgical masks to Penn State Health St. Joseph.
With cases of the coronavirus increasing daily in Berks County, the need for medical supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE) is also growing exponentially. Penn State Berks answered that call with a large donation of items.
A $425,000 donation will allow Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center and its partner, Penn State Berks, to establish a nursing simulation lab on St. Joseph’s downtown Reading campus.
“Be Bold, Take Charge,” a multi-sector community health initiative between Penn State Berks and Penn State Health St. Joseph, is hosting a professional clothing drive in partnership with Goodwill Industries and Berks Connections Pretrial Services (BCPS) through April 9. Donation bins will be located on Penn State Berks campus in the Perkins Student Center and Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. Clothing can also be donated at Penn State Health St. Joseph Main Campus at 2500 Bernville Road in Reading.

Penn State Berks students majoring in kinesiology will be working with Penn State Health St. Joseph and My Gut Instinct, Inc. at the annual Guts & Glory Digestive & Wellness Expo. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, (rain date: Sunday, Oct. 9) at the First Energy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. The expo is free and open to the public.
