Students beginning their studies at Penn State Berks received their first homework assignment well before they showed up on campus for the first day of classes. The assignment, part of the college’s Common Reading Program, was to read "A Girl Named Nina" by local author Norma Tamayo of Exeter Township, who will discuss her work at 12:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.
College can be intimidating for first-year students who are still learning how to balance their priorities and responsibilities, while still enjoying their newfound freedom. Jon Vroman, founder of the Front Row Foundation, motivational speaker, and author of this year’s common reading for Penn State Berks, "Living College Life in the Front Row," will present a lecture that divulges his secrets for student success at 12:15 and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium
