Berks Is a 'Safe Zone' for all students

Penn State Berks wants all members of the campus community to know that they are valued and accepted. That’s why the campus is offering an Ally/Safe Zone training session from 12:15 to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room for faculty and staff.

Unity Day celebration to be held Sept. 20

Penn State Berks will hold its Unity Day celebration -- an annual Penn State event that helps bring students, faculty, staff and the community together to celebrate diversity -- from 12:15-1:15 p.m Sept. 20. Activities will take place under the tent at the Perkins Plaza, rain or shine. All Unity Day activities are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

'Cherry Wine' shows dangers of substance abuse abuse

Penn State Berks will hold an educational event for students titled “Cherry Wine” at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium as part of the campus "Stand for State" program. The event will explore the dangers and consequences of alcohol and drug abuse and sexual assault, and provide information on resources available to victims.

Student astronomer captures images of solar eclipse

Astronomy has always been a fascinating hobby for Robert Hart, a sophomore mechanical engineering major at Penn State Berks. It was a subject that he enjoyed discussing with his favorite professor, Robert Forrey, distinguished professor of physics. So when Forrey and his family traveled to Hiawassee, Georgia, and rented a cabin to view the recent solar eclipse, he invited Hart to join them.

Pulse Nightclub survivor to speak on Oct. 4

When Angel Colon decided to go to Pulse Nightclub in Orlando for a fun night with friends on June 11, 2016, he had no idea that by the early morning hours of June 12, his life would be changed forever. He will discuss his experience as a survivor of one of the deadliest shootings in the country at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium at Penn State Berks. This presentation is free and open to the public.

Berks alum James Fitzgerald to discuss FBI career

Retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent James “Fitz” Fitzgerald, a 1975 Penn State graduate and a former student at Penn State Berks, and the agent credited with bringing the Unabomber to justice, will give two special presentations on his career in the FBI: the first at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, and the second at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, both in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium.
